Hi, I'm Petra
I'm a freelance digital product designer
and I help people like you bring their ideas
to life through pixel-perfect user interface design interlaced with user experience principles.
With a background in design, advertising, marketing and communication I come on-board to solve design problems for you so you can concentrate on doing what you love.
A little more about me
I wish I could say I always knew I would become a designer but that's not at all the case.
I've been searching for my passion for some time now and tried many things until I had the chance to explore design. But instead of seeing my life experiences as isolated cases that have come and gone,
I like to highlight and use the transferrable skills I have learned along the way.
Growing up, I was convinced I would become a journalist and would write for the New Yorker. Very specific, I know. This happened because I dreamt about it one night and the thought wouldn't leave me for years to come.
But as the years progressed, I drifted away from the idea until 2014 when I woke up one day and the same idea that I had years back, came to me again. This is when I applied to study communication at the University of Vienna.
Talk about full circle.
After I finished Uni, I moved to London - the city of my dreams. I started working a month later at an advertising start-up as a publishing executive. When I started, a hurdle I had was to overcome the urge to put the user first and instead, to concentrate on the needs of the client only. This is when it became clear to me that I am very much a user-first kind of person.
With 2020 making everyone's lives challenging, I was put on furlough. I decided to take this time and learn design. After the basics of graphic design, I started to get to know UX/UI and I fell in love with it. Not just because it came very easy to me, being extremely aware of my own patterns and behaviours when using technology but also because the beauty of making someone's experience enjoyable and seeing the designs come to life is what makes me smile (and in one case, happy sob on the tube).
Three months later, I started working as a lead designer for a start-up and a freelance product designer.
Two months after that, I was offered a position as an in-house junior marketing designer.
This brings me to the present day, hoping I kept the story short enough for you to read this far.
If so, feel free to get in touch and let's create something great together.
